To celebrate our 10 year anniversary Tom and I had dinner at the mother of all soul food restaurants...Buttons. We started with Fresh gulf oysters, lightly fried, served on crispy bruschetta bread with creamed spinach & artichokes, béarnaise sauce and applewood smoked bacon. I had the chicken and waffles and mi esposo had the gumbo. The gumbo consisted of chicken, andouille sausage, crawfish, shrimp, gator and okra in a dark roux topped with rice and smoked duck. He loved it. The chicken and waffles consisted of what else but hand battered fried chicken and homemade Belgium waffle. Served with blueberry infused butter, fresh berry compote, sweet potato pomme frites and collard greens. Some amazingly bad for you but good for the soul kind of food. I wont eat for weeks. Happy Anniversary to us!
