The Vet

Usually I don't mind taking the dogs to visit the vet.  Today was not one of those days.  Abbey, our beloved 10 year old Parsons Russell Terrier, has not been herself these past few days.  Yesterday we had company and she didn't leap off the couch to greet the new person, that's a HUGE sign that something was wrong.  So we took her in this morning.

The vet looked her over, moved her head to and fro, pressed up and down her spine  Then he turned her feet under, now I've watched enough Animal Planet shows to know that if a dog doesn't turn the foot back to the right position something is wrong, and of course she couldn't turn her left back foot right.  It seems she has damaged a disc.  Who knows what happened, she's always chasing after those darn squirrels and playing rough with Stella.  Regardless she's on immediate bed rest for 3 weeks.  We have an appointment for Friday to see if she's healing.  If this doesn't remedy the pain then x-rays are next.

I hope she's OK, and that she heals fast.  I hate seeing her in pain, it breaks my heart. We need all the positive prayers we can get.

Upside Down Drawings

Sadly, my 5th grade classes are crammed, did I mention I have two classes at 42+, and very ill behaved.  Which blows my mind because I've never experienced such bad behavior in 5th graders.  Usually I break out the best for them, they paint, they create things with clay, they get to experiment with new art materials.  This is the time for them to shine.  This year I've had enough.  I cannot fight them, they've won.  If they don't want to do the fun things I had planned then fine...F. I. N. E!  After talking it over with other seasoned teachers they recommend that I just stick to drawing, and drawing it is.

Over the last three weeks they've been working on their upside down drawings.  I did it in high school and college and enjoyed it, and I made sure to let them know that they're doing a high school level lesson.  They thought that was pretty cool.

It's from the book "The New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards.  I printed off 50 copies of Pablo Picasso's Portrait of Igor Stravinsky and had them draw what they saw.  They started anywhere they felt comfortable and drew the lines as they saw them, not focusing on drawing hands, or features of the face, just drawing one line at a time.  The results were sooooooo awesome.  Of course there were a few who would try and draw right side up and then when they saw me coming quickly turn their papers upside down, and be all "what's up teach?"  Funny unruly 5th graders.  Now, on to the next drawing lesson, which will be....heck, I don't know yet.  That's what the day after Thanksgiving is for, lesson plan day!

How To Draw A Cat

Again, my students didn't let me down.  I think I hurt myself laughing.

I R angry punk killer kitty!

Catafornia Girls we're unforgettable, furry all over disco ball on top.  2 music notes and flowers melt your Popsicle, ooooh oh ooooh!

So a turkey, a cat, a turtle & a platypus with fake nails decide to skydive over a toilet.  Not the desired outcome they were hoping for.

Footballs grow on trees?

Pretty princess sings sweetly to bearded lion.

YUM!  TAKI!  What is taki exactly?  Should you eat taki before jumping into a hot tub?

Apparently this mouse doesn't understand cat speak.

And the cat party was on, and the cat party was on, and the cat party was on.

Kitten Bieber's 1st hit single.

This mouse has enraged me!  Grr, I have kilt it dead!

These cats must be special.  Pooping with toilet paper into glitter filled boxes, now that's awesome!

Little person putting sombrero onto giant cat using magical powers while his wife sits in the car unimpressed.

This cat is about to have a really, really, really bad day.

Nobody believed Jeff's excuse for being late to work.

My Heaven

I've come to enjoy my time at Fort Woof Dog Park.  It's like my own personal heaven.  All you have to do is plop yourself on the ground (being careful not to sit in a nice, fresh pile of dog poop) and all the dogs come running over to give you kisses.  How awesome is that?  Pretty awesome I'd say.  Stella enjoys it as well.  She interacted with some of the other dogs today, but she mostly stuck by us or if she saw kids she'd run and beg for attention.  She did find a puppy (that looked like her) to play with towards the end, baby steps I guess.  Here are some photos of the other dogs we met.

More Bird Drama

Today was the last of the classes to do the Daily Doodle of how to draw a bird.  I'm going to have to find another how to drawing to keep their creative comedy juices flowing.  I see cartoon strips in the near future.  Darn it, these kids keep me highly entertained.
This bird has pink eye, or has had too many Red Bulls.

Bird Therapy

Either this bird is throwing up on a person or throwing up a person, I can't decide.

Um, yeah, I don't know.

Bird has a new pair of shoes!
The girl who drew this said she would go with her aunt to the mall and she'd always leave them behind.  She said her aunt didn't baby sit very well.

Sounds birds make?

How to draw a bird

Since I've no time in between classes I've started the students drawing a daily doodle for the first 5 minutes in order to help me get organized for the next grade. It also gets the kids working right off the bat so there's not a lot of talking and playing around. Most of the ideas were given to me by other websites and other teachers. They love to practice drawing cartoon things. This week they've been drawing cartoon birds. THEY ARE SO CUTE AND SO FUNNY, I had to show them off. Please to enjoy.

Giant bird with teeth next to a pool of gravy?

Um, not sure about the connection here.

I love how the egg on the very right shows movement!

Worms is good!

She is mass producing eggs while he's mass producing musical notes.
