10 Years Ago Today

10 years ago today I married not only the man of my dreams but my best bud. I cannot believe it's been 10 years since we met and exchanged vows in a little country church off of Greenwood Road. It was the happiest and most perfect day. I love you sweetie, here's to 10 more blessed years together.

Baby Bird!

At school today I noticed a bunch of kids hunched over in a circle. That could only mean bad things. Luckily there was no fight, they had found a baby bird on the ground. The wind has been so bad these past few days I imagine that was why he was downed.

The music teacher put the bird in a box and hung it on a branch in the garden. We hope that the parents are still willing to feed him, that is if someone doesn't steal the bird. Good luck little bird, we hope you make it!

BABY OWL!

Tom heard the blue jays and mocking birds making a big fuss yesterday. They were very upset over a baby Eastern Screech Owl. So adorable. I hope he catches those mice that live in the ivy, he definitely came to the right place.

Prairie Fest

My husband convinced me to join a biking group on Saturday. Let it be known that I haven't ridden a bike in two years. We started at Trinity Bikes off North Main, rode through downtown, then the rest is a haze. 8 miles may not seem much, but to me it certainly was. Prairie Fest is in it's fourth year I believe, it's to celebrate the Tandy Hills trails and to promote reconnecting with nature. It certainly was a perfect day for a festival. Lots of good food and furry friends.

I made friends with a Great Pyranees/Irish Wolfhound.

We hit the trails but then quickly changed our minds due to the people congestion. It's hard to enjoy hiking when 50 people are following behind you, kind of defeats the purpose.

The flowers were gorgeous. Springtime in Texas can actually be pretty nice. What's not nice was the bike ride back to Trinity Bikes. Thought I was going to DIE! The wind was against me, my legs were shot, my arms sunburned, and my head was throbbing. I was the one everyone waited on. So embarrassing. At least I can say I did it. I rode my bike for longer than two miles! Go Me! I look forward to the next bike ride, maybe.

Art Show!

The district art show was a couple of weeks ago. What kind of art teacher would I be if I didn't put my kids art up on the blog? They do great work. So proud.

iMovie Fun

I have discovered the awesomeness of iMovie. With all the footage I've collected over the past two years I created this iMovie to one of my favorite Band of Horses songs. Please to enjoy

Chalk Pastel's

I found this awesome landscape chalk lesson and thought the kids would do well with this.  I was hoping to stretch it out for a few days but these kids are quick!  I was so impressed with their work.  They did really well.  What I've learned from this experience:  Black oil pastels get used up fast as well as the chalk.  Chalk pastels ARE VERY MESSY!

I sure did use a ton of paper towels.  A sink with running water would be way easier.  Maybe one day I'll have a sink.  I also learned not to spray fixative on a windy day.  Despite the clean up it was totally worth it.  Now if only I had a museum to put the work in.  That's what I need, a sink and a museum, yeah, that would be awesome!

Here's the link to the lesson plan.  I love me some Deep Space Sparkle.

Justin Beaver

The boys HATE Justin Bieber.  The girls go back and forth arguing with them about Bieber's awesomeness.  I guess it's my fault for letting them listen to aol's KidsPop while they work.  But then if I didn't I wouldn't get such awesome results such as this....

I think it's apparent that a boy drew this.  I like that he added a microphone in the right beaver hand/leg.  I really like the acne outbreak too.  These kids are highly entertaining sometimes.

Disgruntled Student

Everyone says that once Spring Break is over the students' behavior goes down the drain.  Boy they were spot on!  I've had to send quite a few students to the office these last few days.  I've also had to take away their art and write instead of draw.  A task this student did not like at all.  Instead of writing his name he drew an angry face.  Pretty creative for a trouble maker.  Ah, kiddos make me laugh sometimes...and cry...and question my career of choice, lol!  It's totally worth it.

Into The Garden

We had such a beautiful week last week I decided to take my smallest class out of the classroom and into the garden to sketch.  I'd never done this before and didn't know how well they'd do drawing from observation.  Most of the students planted themselves in front of the gorgeous blossoming peach tree, other drew the lady bugs which were everywhere you turned.  There were lots of bees too, I was terrified someone would get stung.  With my luck the one who'd get stung would be the one who was allergic to them.  No one did, thank goodness.

Here's our lady bug friend.  She wanted to be the subject of the drawings.

The students surprised me with their mad sketching skillz.  I didn't hear "Can you draw this tree for me?" once.  They did pretty darn good.  We should do this more often, behavior pending.
