Arlington ISD Heading To Austin

So I have heard that the Arlington ISD is heading to Austin to protest the education budget cuts.  I think this is awesome and I totally want to get the FWISD teachers and parents in on this...however, they plan to protest during SXSW, one of the largest music/movie festivals in the US.  Having been before it's almost impossible to get hotels.  A day trip may be too hard for everyone, it's a 4 hour drive from DFW.  Any thoughts?  Of course calling our lovely Rick Perry would help too, but man, you can really make a statement with live art teacher bodies.  Come on brain!  Work!

If you would like to make a call to Gov. Perry's office the number is 800-252-9600.

Here's the link to the Arlington story.

  1. I saw the story also. The music teacher and I are freaking out. We talked about our entire school just not showing up, protesting that way. That way the parents are affected too, and start to put some pressure on Gov. Perry. Maybe they would start to realize how important teachers are. I didn't realize they were marching during SXSW weekend. I want to go every year but still haven't made it. You could always go the following weekend!

  2. I don't think we can legally protest by walking out. It would be worth checking out. UEA is planning a march to Austin as well, they're also passing out blue ribbons and making signs to put in yards. There's a meeting on March 3rd if you're a member you might want to check it out. You get fed too...that's always a bonus!
