Well, the day has finally arrived! Stella starts Tuesday at my elementary school. After so many obedience classes she has passed her CGC (Canine Good Citizenship) and her Therapy dog test. All her paperwork is turned in and with the principals OK, she is ready to go! Woo Hoo! I'm so proud of her!!
She'll be coming to school 2 days a week and letting students read to her. Studies have shown that students who read to dogs often improve their reading skills. Having a dog by their side eases their tension and boosts their self-confidence. It's a relaxed and non-judgmental environment for the students. After all, Stella doesn't mind if you make mistakes, she wont make fun of anyone!
Stella has also started making friends at a local assisted living home and in January she will start working with hospice. She's going to be a busy dog!
