Op Art Shapes and Patterns (4th grade)

In this lesson students learned about Op Art and reviewed the work of artists such as Victor Vasarely, and Bridget Riley.  We also talked about the Elements of art, and the difference between geometric and organic shapes.
Students began by picking either an organic or geometric shape and drawing that in the middle of their paper.  They then used rulers to draw their vertical and geometric shapes across their paper.  They then drew over their pencil lines with black marker and colored their papers using a checkered board pattern.
This was a very time consuming lesson, but as you can see from the results, they turned out fantastic!  Good job 4th grade.
