Charcoal Still Life

My amazing AP Art students finished up their charcoal lesson with these wonderfully rendered charcoal drawings of a cow skull.  We played around with different types of charcoal, created an abstract work, played around with value and then when eveyone was comfortable with the charcoal we drew from a still life.  Turned out great!

Mixed Media Self Portraits

For this project students layered their paper with gesso and line drawings and text.  Then they added blocks of colors and patterns and a contour line self portrait.  The students really enjoyed exploring new art materials.

Art Club

Art students are participating in art club a little differently this year.  Instead of painting murals like we did last year, we decided to help out the local animal shelters and rescue groups to make beds, bandanas, and toys for the dogs and cats.  Students also participated in different animal adoption events benefiting Saving Hope http://saving-hope.com/about-us.html.

So far we have about 45 beds, over 100 bandanas, and a plethora of toys. We will be donating the goods to the City of Fort Worth Animal Control and also Little Dog Rescue of North Texas towards the end of May.

Here are some photos of member prepping the fabric for bow ties, braided toys, bandanas, cat toys, and beds.
